ABOUT THE ARTIST

I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, lush and beautiful native land of Osage, O-ga-xpa,

and Caddo peoples. I always had a thing for making art, making balls out of mud,

solitary and tactile things, entertaining myself. As a kid I liked making up games,

running around laughing, and just doing whatever my friends or siblings wanted to do.

I explored countless ways of artmaking throughout my school years, with help and

guidance and encouragement of so many teachers, peers, and family members.

I received a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis on abstract painting in 2014

after four years at Hendrix College, not far from my hometown.

Now I live in and explore around Moab, Utah, on the Colorado plateau, on sacred lands

of countless indigenous groups over the centuries, including the Ute, Navajo (Dine),

Paiute, Hopi, Timpanogos, Ute Mountain Ute, and many others.

I'm inspired by the community here -- the people, the plants, the animals, the rocks,

mountains, waters, clouds, sounds, smells, everyone together. The history.

The silence when you're really out there. The lizards doing pushups.

The immensity and the tiny things. Lately I've been using color pencils to create

art in this place, a way to express my wonder, reverence, and joy in this home.

The creative process is always a journey. And I love letting my eyes wander

around a finished piece. But my favorite part of creating is sharing with others.

I also love finding mushrooms, looking at bugs, gardening, foraging, cooking, eating,

hanging out with cats, playing basketball, watching basketball, scrambling around

on the rocks, sleeping, doing handstands, sitting quietly by streams, dreaming,

watching the sky change, giving thanks, and having fun.
